BRADFORD, ENGLAND--(CCNMatthews - June. 23, 2005) - Morrisons announces the arrival of their new babies! Nicknamed "waterbabies!" the new smaller, sweeter watermelons can be found exclusively from today in Morrisons fruit and vegetable sections. The new additions are smaller than a conventional watermelon. Although smaller the "waterbabies" have no pips and less of the white inner layer, making most of the fruit edible.

The "Solinda Melon" to use their correct name, is sweeter than an ordinary watermelon. The smaller size makes it easier to get from the shelves to the checkout and the checkout to the car and once you get home it requires less storage space. At the ripe price of GBP 1.89, Morrisons hopes this will not only encourage consumers to include more fruit in their diet but also to try more unusual varieties.

Anthony Forbes, Senior Buyer said, "Watermelons are increasing in popularity, they are a great refreshing fruit, ideal for the summer season. We believe our "waterbabies" are versatile, tasty and healthy, an ideal product to offer to our customers."

The Solinda Melon is grown in Spain and Italy during a season which lasts through the summer.
