MosChip Launches Multi-Function PCI Express® Controller Chip Boasting Built-In Support for XGA, LVDS Flat Panel Display and More for a Myriad of Applications

MCS9950 Display and PCIe Connectivity Controller Is Ideal for Transaction Terminals, Media Display, POS Terminals, Display Expansion, Consumer and Industrial Applications

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - September 27, 2010) - MosChip Semiconductor Technology Ltd., a leading provider of high performance connectivity solutions for consumer, industrial and computing applications, today announced its MCS9950 multi-function PCI Express® (PCIe) connectivity with display controller chip. This multifunction controller chip boasts built in support to enable a variety of PCIe to multiple I/O connectivity and display options. Well suited applications include connectivity for docking stations in popular media players; serial attached devices; serial networking / monitoring equipment; Point of Sale (POS) terminals; embedded systems I/O expansions; and industrial control, security, monitoring and PC applications.

MCS9950 Functional Details
The MCS9950 is a multi-function PCIe controller that supports a XGA -- up to 1024 X 768 -- compatible display controller, up to four serial ports, a parallel port and eight GPIOs. It provides a one lane (x1) 2.5 Gbps PCIe bus. The display interface provides a LVDS-based Flat Panel Display (FPD) link that allows direct connectivity to flat panel displays. The PCIe configuration registers and device options can be configured from an external EEPROM through a dedicated I2C interface. 

The MCS9950 supports a 13-pin proprietary interface to connect and cascade other supported MosChip devices for I/O expansion. In conjunction with MosChip's MCS8142/44, the MCS9950 -- with its display interfaces -- is well suited for transaction terminal applications such as ATMs and kiosks, POS applications and industrial control systems.

The core and analog supply voltage is rated at approximately 1.2V while the I/O supply voltage is rated at 3.3V. Operating temperature is up to 85°C. The part is fully compliant with PCI Express base specification, revision 1.1.
