Motif Investing Ranked #4 on CNBC's Disruptor 50 List

Company Outranks Uber, Airbnb, and Dropbox on CNBC's List

SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 18, 2014) - Motif Investing, a pioneer in low-cost, ideas-based investing, today announced that it has been selected as part of the prestigious CNBC Disruptor 50 List. The CNBC Disruptor 50 is an annual roundup of the country's most ambitious and innovative companies changing the economy and overall business landscape. Motif Investing was ranked fourth, above companies such as Uber, Airbnb, and Dropbox and is the top-ranked startup catering to retail investors and advisors on CNBC's list. This honor comes on the heels of Motif's recent $35 million funding round, led by JPMorgan Chase, Wicklow Capital, and Balderton Capital and the company's introduction of new, cost-effective wealth management services for retail investors and financial advisors.

"Motif is turning the investing industry on its head with its low-cost pricing model and innovative technology, which has created tremendous value for self-directed retail investors and investment advisors," said Charles Moldow, General Partner at Foundation Capital and Motif Investing board member. "A top five ranking on the CNBC Disruptor 50 list is a well-deserved accomplishment for Hardeep and the entire Motif Investing team."

Low Fees Continue to Shake Up Investing Industry
Users of the Motif Investing platform have the unique opportunity to invest in motifs -- intelligently-weighted baskets of stocks based on a specific theme or idea such as Obamacare, fed tapering or shale oil -- for a single transaction fee of $9.95 and no additional management fees. If a consumer were to make a similar 30 stock transaction through a traditional brokerage firm, it could cost them $300. Additionally, Motif now offers Horizon motifs which provide self-directed retail investors with simple, commission-free allocation models and rebalancing.

Empowering Financial Advisors
Motif Investing's Advisor Platform streamlines how advisors can build, monitor, and rebalance model portfolios in a cost-effective manner. Advisors can use the platform to build their own model portfolios or use existing models in Motif's catalog including the new, commission-free Horizon motifs. This is in contrast to "robo-advisors" which can be accompanied by management fees ranging from 0.15%-0.35% of total assets per year.

Inside the CNBC Disruptor 50 List
Companies were selected based on a two-part evaluation process. First, over 500 companies were put through a months-long process of researching and scoring, using a proprietary blend of quantitative criteria, such as the amount of venture capital raised and the estimated size of the company's addressable market, along with qualitative criteria, including originality and creating a new market or ecosystem. Second, CNBC's Disruptors Advisory Council conducted a survey to rank this criteria in terms of impact on a company's overall ability to disrupt established industries and public companies. The council found that "creating a new market or ecosystem" and originality were the two most important criteria in determining how disruptive a start-up is to established companies or industries.
