Mountain America Credit Union and Girl Scouts of Utah Launch Financial Literacy Program

Financial Dreams Patch Created

WEST JORDAN, UT--(Marketwired - September 17, 2015) - The Girl Scouts of Utah and Mountain America Credit Union are teaming up to promote financial awareness and teach girls how to wisely and responsibly handle money.

Financial literacy is a critical component for success in today's fast-paced world. Despite this fact, studies show that many Americans lack even a basic understanding of financial concepts and economic matters. The good news is research shows that positive personal financial behaviors are displayed when students K-12 are taught financial and economic concepts in meaningful, understandable ways.

"Financial education needs to begin at an early age, and should be an ongoing process," says Mountain America Chief Marketing Officer, Sharon Cook. "The Financial Literacy Patch Program allows the girls to learn about budgeting, saving, how credit works, and how to manage savings and checking accounts -- basic skills that provide a solid foundation for managing money. We are excited to work with the Girl Scouts of Utah to nurture a desire to learn about financial matters, incorporate sound principles, and set girls on a straight path to achieving their financial dreams."

Financial literacy is a key initiative of the Girl Scout mission: Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. "We are thrilled with Mountain America's desire to create this program to educate girls about financial literacy," says Girl Scouts of Utah CEO, Janet Frasier. "Financial institutions play an important role in promoting and teaching money skills, and we are pleased to partner with them."

The Financial Dreams Patch Program from Mountain America Credit Union is now available through the Girl Scouts of Utah and is for Girl Scouts of all ages. Girl Scouts who fulfill the requirements and bring the completed patch form into the Salt Lake City Girl Scout shop will receive a free patch courtesy of Mountain America.
