Mountain America Credit Union Receives Excellence Award for Technology Infrastructure

For Bringing Wi-Fi to Branches: Saving Time, Money and Increasing Member Education

WEST JORDAN, UT--(Marketwired - Oct 2, 2014) - Mountain America Credit Union was recently honored with an Excellence Award for Technology Infrastructure, which recognizes outstanding approaches to technology challenges with potential for universal application across the credit union movement. The award was presented by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Technology Council, a national network comprised of more than 750 credit union technology experts from across the United States.

"In our continual effort to improve the member banking experience, we have found a critical component of our success to be our ability to bring technological innovation and reliability to our branches," said Alex Barker, chief information officer at Mountain America. "Being able to connect our members through Wi-Fi allowed our branch technology champions to educate our members on the online and mobile resources available to them -- tools which save time and money for both our members and the credit union."

Mountain America won the Technology Infrastructure category for its entry, entitled Branch Wireless and Backup WAN. This innovative solution combined the addition of branch wireless and backup data circuits for 76 branches. This project has resulted in a savings of $10,000 per month in telecom costs; 212+ hours of branch downtime was avoided through the backup circuits; and more than 20,500 member devices being connected to the Wi-Fi network as Mountain America employees demonstrated their award-winning mobile apps.

"At each annual conference the CUNA Technology Council recognizes outstanding accomplishments by Council members over the past year," said Robert Reh, Chair of the Awards Committee for the CUNA Technology Council. "We selected winners who most demonstrated excellence in the use of technology in greatly enhancing their credit union's level of member service and experience, and improving the effectiveness of credit union operations and marketing. The CUNA Technology Council congratulates and applauds our winners this year!"

Award winners were recognized at the CUNA Technology Council's 19th annual conference held September 21-24, in Las Vegas. For more information on the Excellence Awards or to view the entire list of winners, please visit http://www.cunatechnologycouncil.org/awards/excellenceawards.html.
