Mountain Travel Sobek Brings a New Spin to Adventure Travel in Africa by Launching a Brand New Africa Program

EMERYVILLE, CA--(Marketwired - December 15, 2013) - Adventure travel pioneer Mountain Travel Sobek has deep roots in Africa. In fact, their namesake "Sobek" -- Egyptian god of crocodiles -- pays tribute to their heritage as the original Africa adventure travel company.

Unraveling a History in Africa

In 1971 MTS sent author Colin Fletcher to scout the first "pure" walking safari in Kenya; in 1974 mountaineer and Sierra Club director Jules Eichorn led MTS's first climbing trip to Mt. Kenya and Kilimanjaro; and in 1998 MTS's African Golden Kingdoms adventure received an astounding response from it's first departure trip members, making it one of MTS's most popular African adventures.

With over four decades of leading trips and expeditions in Africa, MTS has long-standing relationships with private concessions, luxury hotels and eco-lodges; access to the best naturalist guides and trackers; and rare permits that gives guests access to remote locations.

The New Africa Program

This year MTS welcomed a new Africa and Middle East Program Director into their family. Florida native, Justin Huff, has spent time living in Russia, Hungary, and the U.S., and worked as a Destination Specialist covering all regions across the globe. His first trip to Africa ignited a passion that led him to dedicate his talents entirely to this region and he is on constant alert for the next untouched tourist destination to share with new travelers.

Mountain Travel Sobek's new Africa Program infused MTS's current repertoire of African adventures with five brand new trips which focus on conscientious and sustainable travel, tap into remote locations, and give intimate encounters with local wildlife that some only dream of.

The New Trips:

Some highlights of these trips include: tracking the endangered black rhino by foot in Matusadona National park and endangered mountain gorillas in Rwanda's Parc des Volcans; enjoying a meal with the Maasai in their Crater Highlands homestead, touring their schools, and possibly observing a hunt; camping and climbing among the highest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei; taking your kids on specialized children's safaris with fantastic activities like kids-only jungle drives and guided walking in the reserve with a dedicated ranger; and staying in private wildlife conservancies for the most authentic animal encounters, including night game drives!
