MP Dave MacKenzie Announces Government of Canada Investment of More than $624,000 to Help Unemployed Residents of Woodstock and Oxford County

WOODSTOCK, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 18, 2006) - Dave MacKenzie, Member of Parliament for Oxford, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Canada, today announced funding of $624,605 to provide services for unemployed persons in Woodstock and Oxford County. These services will be available at the Community Employment Services Building in Woodstock.

"Canada's New Government is proud to make investments in the community organizations that help people find employment," said Mr. MacKenzie. "We are committed to helping unemployed workers find and keep jobs so they can contribute to the local economy."

This funding is being delivered through the Employment Assistance Services (EAS) program at the department of HRSDC. EAS services help unemployed people with their job search through employment counselling, job search workshops, and assistance in developing return-to-work action plans.

"Over 88 per cent of the people who use our services find employment, enter a training program, or return to school to upgrade their skills," said Mr. Harrison of Community Employment Services. "With the help of this funding, we can extend our employment assistance service and help an additional 6,000 residents in our community."

Community Employment Services also has offices in Ingersoll and Norwich, extending its service across Oxford County. The organization, through its various streams of service, provides support to over 11,000 individuals annually.
