MPX and Yingli Will Jointly Evaluate Solar Energy Projects

The Partnership Will Focus on the Assessment of Opportunities to Implement Photovoltaic Power Plants and Correlated Businesses in Brazil and Latin America

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL--(Marketwire - February 21, 2008) - MPX Energia S.A. (BOVESPA: MPXE3), the company with nine power generation projects under development consisting primarily of coal-fired thermoelectric plants, with a totally integrated concept and strategically located at the main ports and super ports in Brazil and Chile, announces that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding ("MoU") with Baoding Tianwei Yingli New Energy Resources Co., Ltd. ("Yingli") aiming to develop a prospective partnership in solar-based power generation projects.

The partnership considers the evaluation of opportunities to implement photovoltaic power plants in Brazil and Latin America, as well as photovoltaic modules manufacturing units in Brazil to supply local and Latin American markets.

Yingli is one of the largest manufacturers of photovoltaic modules in the world, a leader in this technology and one of the few large-scale photovoltaic companies with a vertically integrated business model.
