Mr. Mark S. Tessier P.Eng Joins Aurora as General Manager, Mining Projects

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 11, 2006) - Aurora Energy Resources Inc. ("Aurora") (TSX:AXU) is pleased to announce that Mr. Mark S. Tessier, P.Eng. has joined Aurora as General Manager, Mining Projects. Mr. Tessier will be responsible for design, evaluations and cost estimations for all mining projects that may be undertaken by the Company.

"Aurora is extremely pleased to have Mark Tessier join our staff," says Jim Lincoln, Aurora's Vice President of Operations. "Mark will manage all aspects of mine design as we evaluate the feasibility of our projects in Labrador. He is a major addition to Aurora's project development team."

Mark has extensive experience in specialized mine design and operations, including 10 years of uranium mining experience at Elliot Lake and seven years experience at Goldcorp's Red Lake mine. As Underground Projects Coordinator at the Red Lake Mine, Mark was instrumental in the outstanding success of the mine during the 1999-2001 Expansion Project. Thereafter, Mark held the position of Underground Manager at Red Lake Mine from 2001-2006.

Over the course of a 28 year career in mining, Mr. Tessier has also worked for Battle Mountain Gold at Hemlo, Placer Dome Canada Limited in Timmins, and Inco Limited at Thompson. During his career, Mark has worked in numerous mining positions from miner, surveyor and mining technologist, to mine engineer, mine superintendent and manager of mining.

Amongst Mark's key skills are his problem-solving abilities in developing unique and highly successful mining methods, his effective project management and his commitment to excellence.

Mark is a registered Professional Engineer and a medalist graduate of both the Mining Engineering Program at Queen's University and the Mining Technology Program at Northern College, Haileybury School of Mines.
