CHATSWORTH, CA--(Marketwire - Aug 20, 2012) - MRV Communications™, Inc. (OTCQB: MRVC) (PINKSHEETS: MRVC) ("MRV" or the "Company"), a leading provider of optical communications network infrastructure equipment and integration and managed services, today announced that its Optical Communications Systems™ Division (OCS) has expanded its award-winning OptiSwitch® Carrier Ethernet Access portfolio with the introduction of a complete demarcation-to-aggregation solution which comprises of the OptiSwitch 906G and OptiSwitch 9244-1210G models. Offering a best-of-breed Carrier Ethernet solution, these new products enable service providers to deliver next-generation services for a broad range of applications from business Ethernet to mobile backhaul to Internet Protocol television (IPTV) to Carrier Ethernet-enabled access to cloud services.
As one of the first Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF)-compliant Carrier Ethernet 2.0 solutions, the OptiSwitch product family continues to deliver unique capabilities that help service providers around the world deliver service level agreement (SLA)-based differentiated services providing a rapid return on investment (ROI).
- The OptiSwitch 906G is a next-generation CE2.0 demarcation solution with built-in flexibility to address a wide range of deployment scenarios. OptiSwitch 906G offers a full range of Layer 2 to Layer 3 IP services including L2 Carrier Ethernet, Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), and IPv4/IPv6 routing. Additionally, the OS906G provides hardware-based multi-layer operation, administration and maintenance (OAM) tools and integrated probes for end-to-end proactive speech and video quality and performance measurements that enable service providers to assure strict SLA requirements for their customers.
- The OptiSwitch 9244-1210G is a first-mile, 10GE Carrier Ethernet packet optical aggregation platform that offers FE, GE, 2.5G and 10GE speeds and consequently offloads provider edge router ports. The OS9244-1210G also offers a very high port density to form factor ratio with the lowest relative power consumption for non-blocking architecture with a total capacity of 200GB.
- The two new OptiSwitch models work in conjunction with each other to offer unique 2.5G speed that enables service providers to offer higher speed services without the cost of a 10GE port. This opens up new revenue streams for the service provider without adding additional costs.
- MRV OCS' industry leading Pro-Vision® service provisioning and network management system compliments the combined OptiSwitch 906G and OptiSwitch 9244-1210G solution by enabling zero-touch service creation for mass deployment with instant service turn-up, extensive reporting and service portals for improved real-time monitoring capabilities.
"Service providers are happy that Carrier Ethernet services are one of the fastest growing market segments today, and in order to meet that demand, they need intelligent, flexible Carrier Ethernet platforms," stated Michael Howard, co-founder and principal analyst at Infonetics Research. "MRV's new OptiSwitch models are designed to help service providers create, offer and deliver new service options and higher capacities, including 10GE backbone transport for aggregated Carrier Ethernet traffic and 10GE port optimization for the provider edge."
"As service providers worldwide look to deploy an ever growing number of business Ethernet, mobile backhaul and wholesale Ethernet transport services, they need a solution that offers superior intelligence along with efficient, flexible and scalable bandwidth capacity," said Zeev Draer, vice president of strategic marketing for MRV's OCS division. "Our customers select our field-proven, low-power, high-density OptiSwitch Carrier Ethernet Access solutions including demarcation and aggregation to enable them to meet their capacity need today and to provide migration path for converged layers along anticipated growth in customers and new service offerings in the future."
MRV's OptiSwitch family is an award-winning line of compact Carrier Ethernet demarcation and first mile aggregation platforms designed to meet any Carrier Ethernet network requirement. They range from the OS900 intelligent Ethernet demarcation portfolio to the OS9000 Carrier Ethernet packet-optical aggregation platform. OptiSwitch products offer service providers a full suite of Carrier-grade Ethernet services along with high-availability, Hierarchical Quality of Service (H-QoS), security, Ethernet OAM support, and TDM circuit emulation services. This comprehensive selection of hardware-based and multi-layer OAM features and tools offers flexible service awareness and enables rigid SLAs. OptiSwitch products meet IEEE, ITU, IETF standards and MEF specifications, offering complete control to simplify deployment and management while maintaining full interoperability and visibility into customer and provider networks. OptiSwitch is fully compliant with the MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0) initiative that will enable service providers to transform their metro networks for a wide range of next-generation services from mobile backhaul to support the growing 4G and LTE networks to offering differentiated business Ethernet services. MRV's Pro-Vision® service provisioning and network management system further enriches the OptiSwitch CE 2.0 solution by enabling service creation with zero-touch mass deployment with rapid service turn-up.
