Ms. Margaret Bloodworth and Dr. Ingrid Pickering Appointed to the Board of Directors of the Canada Foundation for Innovation

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 13, 2013) - Dr. Kevin P. D. Smith, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Directors - Ms. Margaret Bloodworth and Dr. Ingrid Pickering.

I look forward to working with them to support the CFI's mission to fund Canadian research infrastructure to help the Government of Canada achieve its science and technology goals."

Ms. Margaret Bloodworth is chair of several boards, including the Council of Canadian Academies and Cornerstone Housing for Women. Prior to serving on such boards, Ms. Bloodworth spent 30 years in the federal public service, including in the roles of Deputy Minister of Public Safety, Deputy Minister of National Defence and Deputy Minister of Transport. For her many accomplishments, Ms. Bloodworth has been decorated with the Public Service of Canada Outstanding Achievement Award and the Vanier Medal of the Institute of Public Administration. She was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2011.

Dr. Ingrid Pickering is Canada Research Chair in Molecular Environmental Science at the University of Saskatchewan. Her research focuses on improving synchrotron X-ray techniques that are used to study metals and other elements that could benefit the environment and human health. She has applied her expertise on international advisory panels for synchrotron facilities. In recognition of her scientific accomplishments, Dr. Pickering was ranked one of the top three researchers in Canada in geology and earth sciences by a 2012 Higher Education Strategy Associates (HESA) survey.
