MSABC Congratulates Dave Sharples for Being Selected "Mining Person of the Year" by the Mining Association of British Columbia

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - May 13, 2014) - The Mining Suppliers Association of British Columbia (MSABC) congratulates Dave Sharples, Business Development Consultant for SMS Equipment, for being selected "Mining Person of the Year" by the Mining Association of B.C. "We are very pleased that Dave was selected for this prestigious award, which recognizes an outstanding individual who has shown leadership in advancing and promoting the mining industry in British Columbia," said Ken Roberts, Chair of MSABC. The award was presented yesterday at the opening reception for B.C. Mining Week.

"Dave was recognized for his instrumental role in mobilizing mining suppliers from across the province to become more active in the promotion of mining," explained Roberts. "Under his leadership MSABC grew its fundraising capacity, which has enabled the association to play a more active role in industry-wide advocacy initiatives, such as the 2013 Vote Mining campaign and the recent Mining Day at the Legislature."

Dave Sharples was also commended for his founding role in the establishment of successful mining industry charities, such as Hooked on Miracles. "In only three years this annual mining sector fishing tournament has raised over $1.3 million for the BC Children's Hospital," said Roberts. The award also noted Dave Sharples' leading contributions to the Mining for Miracles fundraising campaign and to fundraising for the Mineral Resources Education Program of BC, also known as MineralsEd. "Dave and his company, SMS Equipment, continue to lead by example in finding new ways for the mining industry to contribute to important B.C. charities," added Roberts. "We are certain he will continue to lead by example for many years to come."

The Mining Suppliers Association of B.C. comprises suppliers, contractors and consultants to the B.C. mining industry who are committed to promoting the sustainability of this valuable resource sector.
