Mt. Lebanon Elementary School - Anderson School District Four Voted One of Top 5 Semi-Finalists in Recipes for Healthy Kids Competition

PENDLETON, SC--(Marketwire - March 28, 2011) - Mt. Lebanon Elementary School, in Pendleton, South Carolina, has won a coveted spot in the semi-finals of the Recipes for Healthy Kids Competition. Mt. Lebanon, which is serviced by Chartwells School Dining Services, is one of the top 5 semi-finalist recipes in the Fruit/Vegetable category. Their Crunchy Hawaiian Chicken Wrap recipe has been posted on the Recipes for Healthy Kids Challenge website for public voting. Voting will take place between now and May 15, 2011 to determine a Popular Choice Award winner. You can vote for Mt. Lebanon's recipe at:

The recipe was developed by Chef Lorett Arnold-Hayes, as Owner and Chef of 1826 on the Green Restaurant, in Pendleton. Very well known for her delicious unique dishes, Arnold-Hayes is also the former owner of the Liberty Hall bed and breakfast featured in Southern Living Magazine.

As part of the competition, competition judges will visit Mt. Lebanon to meet the Recipe Competition team and taste the recipe prepared as part of that day's school lunch. The recipe will be judged on four criteria: taste and flavor profile; appeal to students; creativity and originality; and appearance and presentation. The top finalist in each category (3 finalists total) will travel to compete in a National Cook-Off to determine the Grand Prize winner.

"Chartwells is excited about the opportunities that this recipe contest will bring to the school community in Anderson School District Four," said Barbara Gardner, Director of Dining for Chartwells Anderson County School District Four. "The involvement of our own local Chef Lorett Arnold-Hayes, as well as the student and faculty participation, sends a strong message to the entire community about the importance of students making healthy choices not only at school, but at every meal."
