Mukava -- Redefining Comfortable Reading in a Digital Era

The First Ergonomic Reading Table Developed to BIFMA-Standards

WAKEFIELD, RI--(Marketwired - September 08, 2014) - Today marks International Literacy Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of literacy issues worldwide. According to the latest literacy statistics from the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNISECO), there are currently 781 million adults and 126 million children who cannot read or write a simple sentence -- two-thirds of whom are women. Combatting this global crisis is Tom Keenan who, through his position as CEO of Adult Literacy and Schools, LLC, is raising money for adult literacy and schools in Indonesia.

Keenan recently launched a crowd-funding campaign on to raise funds in an effort to bring the first ergonomic reading table, Mükava, to market, after which 10 percent of the sale profits will go to support adult literacy programs around the world.

"Ending illiteracy is a passion of mine, and through the sales of Mükava, I want to give avid readers a chance to support a cause close to my heart, while also improving the level of comfort during the reading experience," said Keenan, founder of Mükava and CEO of Adult Literacy and Schools, LLC.

Mükava, Finnish for "comfortable," is the first ergonomic reading table developed to BIFMA 2013 standards for ergonomic furniture. The patented device provides a comfortable solution for reading books, magazines, documents or any tablet; regardless of size or model -- a major differentiator among other reading devices on the market.

The Mükava table comes equipped with a device-safe, easily removable Mükava pad that effortlessly attaches to any tablet or reading device which allows for swapping of devices on the Mükava in seconds. Mükava also has two USB ports: one that allows for charging and the other for a reading light that tucks away under the table's surface.

Kickstarter pledges will be used to make the tooling and buy components to assemble the first products. Additionally, backers' support will help spread the word about the product through the development of a website as well as web and print advertisements.

Those who donate $50 will be awarded a Mükava-branded T-shirt. For those who pledge $100, they will receive a Mükava monitor arm, if they pledge $260, they will receive a standard white or birch wood Mükava table along with free delivery in the U.S. Those who donate $300 will receive a brushed stainless steel Mükava and a Mükava-branded T-shirt.
