Multi-Million Dollar Renovation Creating New Spaces at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel

New Venue's Renovations Setting the Standard for Ottawa Meetings

OTTAWA--(Marketwire - Nov 14, 2012) - New renovations are taking shape at a premier Ottawa Convention Centre hotel, bringing exciting new spaces to meet growing demands from group and corporate events.

Undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation to revamp and revitalize its meeting and event space, the Ottawa Marriott Hotel is even adding some new guest rooms in an effort to keep pace with its growing occupancy.

"Over the last few years we've seen our occupancy increasing," said Daniel Laliberté, general manager of the distinctive Ottawa Marriott Hotel, located in the nation's capital, just a short walk from Canada's Parliament buildings. "We're doing more groups and more corporate businesses. Obviously, these two segments are sensitive to the product in general."

Now offering 35,000 total square feet of event space, the hotel is setting the standard for group meetings, corporate gatherings and elegant Ottawa weddings. Recently opening its new Executive Level in October 2012, the hotel has upgraded 21 existing meeting rooms with new furniture, wallpaper and fixtures while adding five board rooms, four of which are highly flexible to accommodate a variety of event needs. The contemporary new event space accounts for 4,500 square feet and can accommodate groups of up to 100 persons. As an added service, the hotel is offering a dedicated Concierge to those hosting meetings and events in this high-tech space which also features LCD panels and conference phones.

In remembrance of Habib Freige, an Ottawa Marriott Hotel employee in the banquet department for more than 30 years, one of the boardrooms has been named in his honour. Freige, who passed away earlier this year from cancer, was previously told of the honour by hotel administrators. A future ceremony is planned to officially dedicate the board room.

As a result of the new addition, this Ottawa hotel near the Convention Centre has converted six rooms previously used to host meetings into seven guest rooms, increasing the hotel's capacity to 487 rooms. The Ottawa Marriott Hotel has also installed a fibre optic line and now offers free wireless Internet access in public areas.

In speaking of the three-year renovation, Laliberté noted that upgrades and room refreshes are standard for hotels to stay competitive, with upgrading of systems and spaces expected every 10 years. Renovations between 2010 and 2013 at this stylish choice among Place de Ville hotels in Ottawa will cost $20 million.
