MultiTouch Named Apex Awards Winner at Digital Signage Expo 2014

MultiTaction Display Installation at the Queensland University of Technology Honored With Gold Award

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwired - Feb 13, 2014) - MultiTouch Ltd., the world leader in interactive display systems, has been named a 2014 Digital Signage Expo® (DSE®) Apex Awards winner in the Education and Healthcare category. The Apex Awards honor innovation as demonstrated in the deployment of technology in the global digital signage, interactive technology and digital place-based media industries. MultiTouch was presented with the Gold Award -- the highest honor -- for its role in creating the world's largest interactive multi-touch installation known as "The Cube" at the Queensland University of Technology's Science and Engineering Centre.

MultiTouch and QUT partnered in the design, development and execution of the solution and the project was chosen from a field of more than 100 entrants. MultiTouch supplied 48 of its 55" Ultra-Thin Bezel (UTB) MultiTaction Cell displays to create six educational zones spanning two stories tall. The Cube provides an explorative and participatory experience for users and was designed to inspire and engage in addition to increasing users' interests in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math through the use of interactive technology.

What makes The Cube so unique is the near seamless edge between the MultiTaction displays and the 14 HD projectors, making the end user feel as though they are right there within the installation as it creates an almost real-life experience. This level of image integration could not be achieved without the use of MultiTouch's MultiTaction displays. The displays have an ultra-fast response time and can track unlimited touch points including hands, fingers, 2D markers and even real-life objects.

"The Apex Awards were created to foster innovation and recognize excellence in the digital signage industry. The work of the recipients of this award represents the best of the best," said Richard Lebovitz, editorial director for Digital Signage Expo. "Recognition of this project, and the collaboration behind it, should be particularly satisfying to the recipients because it is the product of a shared vision and a great working relationship."

"We are thrilled to receive this award and to have our work with QUT and Pro AV Solutions Queensland recognized as the best in the education and healthcare category," said Timo Korpela, general manager of MultiTouch Americas. "Creating the world's largest interactive multi-touch installation was a massive undertaking and the integration of our MultiTaction Cell displays truly brings the content to life at the Cube. The versatility of our technology adds a unique element to any public digital installation. The possibilities for multi-touch technology are endless and we will continue our pursuit in pushing the boundaries and creating state-of-the-art installations for other industries."

MultiTouch and QUT accepted the award at the DSE 2014 Awards Dinner at the Paris Hotel.
