Municipalities Embrace Email Archiving to Improve Organizational Efficiency and Compliance Practices

Email Archiving Leader ArcMail Gains Traction in Government Markets With ArcMail Defender Product Line

SHREVEPORT, LA--(Marketwire - January 11, 2011) - ArcMail Technology, Inc., a leading provider of email archiving and email management appliances that address multiple business issues, today announced that it is building momentum in the government market as municipalities recognize the benefits of email archiving for storing, retrieving, classifying and purging email to improve organizational efficiency and compliance practices.

"Municipalities have IT requirements just like any other organization, but because they are government entities, the need to properly maintain and protect their email data becomes that much more vital," says Rory Welch, CEO of ArcMail. "ArcMail is seeing increased traction in this market as municipalities -- both large and small -- seek to put more robust email solutions in place."

While municipalities are not required to abide by the data retention requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, they must still be prepared to deliver any requested documents under federal Freedom of Information (FOI) rules. Beyond compliance, municipalities are making use of email archiving to not only provide instant access to stored email data, but to also alleviate the storage and performance burden on their primary mail servers.

Town of Branford Turns to Email Archiving
For the town of Branford, Conn., a decision made several years ago to save all incoming and outgoing email correspondence prompted its purchase of an email archiving solution. According to Peter R. Hugret, Branford's information technology director, along with this decision came the need to find ways to improve data storage and retention practices, save storage costs and make email retrieval much more efficient for users.

Notes Hugret, "We contacted several vendors and dealers after researching the market. We saw two demonstrations, and after pricing and reference checking, ArcMail was the unanimous choice from both a cost and ease of use standpoint. The product has performed flawlessly in that it has never been 'down' nor has an end user been unable to find a document when the correct search arguments were posed."

Hugret added, "The bottom line is that we are very satisfied users of the ArcMail archiving appliance and have -- and will continue -- to recommend it to anyone who asks."

The Defender is also deployed within a number of other U.S. municipalities, including a major Louisiana city, which is making use of the appliance to manage more than 1,200 internal email accounts. After experiencing difficulty with other solutions, the municipality ultimately installed the ArcMail solution, and continues to benefit from the product.

The ArcMail Defender line of enterprise-class email archiving solutions is sold worldwide and includes eight appliances ranging in capacity from 500GB to 16TB, with larger customized solutions also available. Featuring a fault-tolerant open source design, multiple configuration options and archiving speeds of up to 150,000-plus messages per day, the ArcMail Defender line is priced starting at $2,899.
