Murad Donates to Troops in Haiti and the Middle East

Skincare Company Partners With the Red Cross and Operation Gratitude to Send Product to Military Serving Overseas

EL SEGUNDO, CA--(Marketwire - March 23, 2010) -  As part of ongoing philanthropic efforts from Murad Inc., the international best-selling skincare line will donate 10,000 units of their popular and effective Waterproof Sunblock SPF 30 to men and women serving overseas in the U.S. military.

Following the tragic events of the earthquakes in Haiti, Murad felt compelled to give back to those serving abroad. The product donation, made through the Red Cross and Operation Gratitude, a California-based non-profit organization that sends thousands of care packages to military personnel each year, will aide in soldiers' protection from harsh environmental elements during active duty in Haiti, Afghanistan, and Iraq .

"Each evening I watch the news and witness the brave men and women of our military rebuilding cities and protecting civilians living in poverty or war zones," said Howard Murad, M.D., Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCLA and founder of Murad, Inc. "We want to do our part to make sure they are protected from the extreme environmental conditions as they selflessly work in such harsh climates to aid those in need."

Dr. Murad served in the U.S Army as a General Medical Officer from 1967-1969, earning a Bronze Star Medal for his meritorious service during the Vietnam War. The temperamental weather conditions in Vietnam allowed Dr. Murad to understand firsthand the effects sun damage and exposure can have on a soldier's body.

The Waterproof Sunblock SPF 30 donated totals over $310,000 in product value and contains three active sunscreens as well as Pomegranate Extract to enhance sun protection and prevent free radical damage, delivering maximum UVA/UVB protection for the soldiers' active lifestyle.

Murad worked with their long-standing suppliers and partners to make this donation possible including Cosway Company Inc., CCL Tube, Gene Diamond Inc. and Marrs Printing Inc. who also donated their time, materials and efforts.

Murad has a long history of giving to those in need and those that give of themselves, including ongoing donations to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles, International SPA Association Endowment Fund and the Vista Del Mar Childcare Center.

For safety and security, assembling of packages occurs at the Army National Guard armory in Van Nuys, California.
