Murray Energy CEO to Comment on Obama Clean Power Plan at Fortnightly Energy Conference

RESTON, VA--(Marketwired - August 26, 2015) - Public Utilities Fortnightly is pleased to announce the addition of Murray Energy Chief Executive Bob Murray, who is an outspoken critic of the Obama administration's environmental policies. He has filed suit against the administration's Environmental Protection Agency, maintaining that its Clean Power Plan is a "power grab" that is unconstitutional, and amounts to the taking of private property.

Those positions will be countered by Charles Bayless, the former chief executive of Tucson Electric Power and Illinois Power, who says that confronting the threats of global warming is of the utmost importance. Bayless, whose roots are in coal country, has stated that reducing carbon emissions must be a global strategy.

"These are two diametrically opposite positions on the same issue from two men who have both made their livings delivering power to the masses," says Ken Silverstein, editor-in-chief of Public Utilities Fortnightly. "Both are impassioned believers -- and our audience at the conference will see and judge for themselves."

Beyond that passionate debate, the Fortnightly conference taking place November 17 and 18 in Scottsdale, Ariz. will look at other imminent issues, namely how distributed technologies such as rooftop solar panels, energy storage and microgrids are changing the dynamics of the utility marketplace.

"The question is not whether those technologies will change the way utilities do business," says Silverstein. "The question is just how soon -- and who will be the major participants: utilities or technology providers, or some partnership?"
