Music & Arts Announces 'Find Your Voice' Grand Prize Winner

Evan Johnson of Columbia, Md. Wins Time With Pop Star Greyson Chance

FREDERICK, MD--(Marketwire - Mar 5, 2012) - Music & Arts, Yamaha, and Greyson Chance announced Evan Johnson of Columbia, Md. as the Grand Prize winner for the first-ever national 'Find Your Voice' Facebook music video contest. Johnson, along with other aspiring musicians between the ages of 13 and 17, sent in videos of themselves covering one of 12 songs on any instrument. YouTube singing sensation Greyson Chance and an expert panel of judges reviewed the hundreds of entries from across the country and narrowed it down to the six most talented musicians based on their artistry, technicality and stage presence. It was then left to America to vote for the grand prize winner.

"It was incredibly inspiring to see the musical skill and passion in teens reflected from all over the United States," said Kenny O'Brien, CEO of Music & Arts. "We developed this contest with the very talented Greyson Chance so that we could bring the magic of music to the masses. We are proud to play a part, even if very small, in helping a young musician's dreams come true."

The voting was close, and for good reason. Each of the six finalists were uniquely gifted and accomplished. Propelled by his ability on the guitar, Johnson has played for six years, and has always wanted to make music a huge part of his life. To see the winning video, visit the 'Find Your Voice' contest page.

Johnson got his start in music playing trumpet in his elementary school band program. He began playing guitar in 7th grade, self-taught in his early years before taking lessons with Matt Carvin through the music lesson program at Music & Arts.

Entering high school, Johnson continued his love of playing by forming a band with some friends and playing at local venues including the Recher Theatre and Six Flags. He continued to hone his craft by delving into other musical ventures including music production, learning other instruments, as well as staying active in his school's band programs.

Johnson recorded his winning video in his studio basement, independently facilitating all of the mixing and mastering prior to submitting the final video.

"Wow! I cannot express how excited and humbled I am by being chosen the winner," said Johnson. "I am so grateful to Music & Arts, Yamaha, and Greyson Chance for offering such an amazing contest for young musicians like me. This is a big push that will hopefully allow me to really pursue something that means everything to me -- music."

As a result of being named the Grand Prize winner, Johnson will receive a trip for two to meet Greyson Chance and experience the day in the life of a pop music sensation! This inside look at the music industry is a priceless opportunity to trade tips, learn from Greyson's experience and get to know the incredibly gifted singer, songwriter and pianist. Johnson will also receive $2,000 toward a Yamaha instrument that Music & Arts carries, a year of free music lessons up to a value of $1,500 and a spot in Music & Arts advertising!

"It's been great to be part of this contest and I am really looking forward to meeting Evan to talk about creating and performing music," said pop star and singing sensation Greyson Chance. "Music & Arts is giving him a great opportunity and I hope it inspires him and all the contestants to continue making music and following their dreams."

The five runners-up won't leave empty handed though. They each will go home with $1,000 toward a Yamaha instrument and six months of free music lessons.
