Music Community Launches Online Platform to Support Artists

Nonprofit Vancouver-Based Organization, Public Records, Launches a New Model to Provide an Alternative for Independent Musicians

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Aug. 4, 2011) - Public Records, a nonprofit music community, prepares to launch the beta version of its online music network, www.publicrecords.org, for August 11th, 2011.

The Public Records network connects artists with fans, venues and industry professionals, providing a new path for independent musicians. "It's a disruptive business model," said CEO and co-founder, Glenn MacRae. "With everything that is happening in the music industry, artists need to take control of their careers. Public Records is poised to shift the industry paradigm."

A beta-launch event will be held at the Waldorf Hotel Cabaret (1489 E Hastings St.) on August 11th, featuring: Guilty About Girls, Behind Sapphire and Jordan Klassen. Tickets are available at Zulu Records, Red Cat Records or online at http://publicrecordsbeta.eventbrite.com.

Public Records was founded in 2009 by a group of young musicians and social entrepreneurs. The Vancouver-based team is excited to play an integral role in the ongoing sea of change in the music industry. The organization is a member-run nonprofit society, ensuring that it stays focused on the needs of independent musicians, and providing them with an alternative path to the traditional means of success within the industry. The network will be maintained primarily through advertising revenue, and the profits will be distributed to the Public Records community through grants to independent artists.
