NAAEI Supports Hire A Hero and Recognizes the Apartment Industry as a Viable Career Path for Military Veterans

Apartment Industry Will Be a Driver of Job Creation; Contributes $155 Billion Annual to the U.S. Economy; More Than 1.1 Million People Directly Employed

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - February 14, 2011) -   In celebration of National Apartment Careers Month in February, the National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI) strongly supports the Hire A Hero program and recognizes the apartment industry as a viable career choice for military members and their spouses because of anticipated job growth and career portability.

As other careers felt the squeeze of the recession, the apartment industry held its own and is poised to experience growth over the next decade. National Apartment Careers Month highlights the significant economic and job impact the industry has on the overall United States economy, directly employing more than 1.1 million people and contributing approximately $155 billion to the economy.

Understanding the industry's continuing need for skilled talent and the portability of careers in apartment leasing, maintenance and management, the apartment industry, through NAAEI's website apartmentcareerhq.org is successfully connecting veterans and their families with job opportunities in the apartment industry.

"Many of the skills learned in the military can be directly applied to the apartment industry -- leadership, professionalism, being part of a team and communication, among others," said John Cullens, President and CEO of ApartmentCareers.com. "Many veterans have gone on to successful careers in the apartment industry and hold top positions."

Spouses of military members are also strong candidates for careers in the apartment industry because of its high degree of career portability. "When military families are transferred, civilian spouses who have a career in the apartment industry often have an easy time finding another job in the industry," said Cullens. In fact, now that most military housing is privatized, military spouses can even be employed in leasing, maintenance and management positions on base.
