NACD Adds New Talent to Legislative Affairs Team

ARLINGTON, VA--(Marketwired - November 10, 2014) - Today, the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) appointed Mandy Gunasekara as senior director of legislative affairs. Mandy brings a wealth of experience on Capitol Hill, cultivating relationships with congressional stakeholders, as well as proven leadership skills to advance NACD's legislative activities in the future.

Mandy most recently served as senior counsel for Congressman Bob Latta (R-Ohio) in the U.S. House of Representatives. Mandy's primary responsibility was for issues related to energy, environment, and trade, as well as agriculture, immigration, labor, and manufacturing. She prepared the Congressman for subcommittee hearings, mark-ups and forums. Mandy also managed outreach initiatives with advocacy groups, trade associations, and constituents relative to her issue responsibilities.

"Mandy's experience on Capitol Hill, specifically on energy and environmental policy, provides NACD with invaluable expertise on issues critical to our industry and will enable us to shape more effectively the outcome of key policy initiatives in Washington," said NACD President Eric R. Byer. "She is a great addition to our team, and we look forward to her contributions as we continue to grow our legislative affairs program." Mandy joins Ben Traynham, recently promoted to director of legislative affairs, and Doug Leigh, coordinator of legislative affairs, in advancing the industry's key issues with Congress.

Previously, Mandy was a labor research assistant in the office of Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Ranking Member for the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. She also served as a law clerk for the Committee on Energy and Commerce for two summers. Mandy earned her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Mississippi Law School and her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Mississippi College.

In September, Doug Leigh also joined NACD's legislative team as coordinator supporting NACD's congressional outreach activities. He plays an integral role in the association's grassroots and PAC programs. Doug came to NACD from the American Society of Anesthesiologists where he served as legal assistant to the general counsel. Previously, Doug was a senior staff intern to Rep. Robert Turner (R-N.Y.). He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the College of Charleston, S.C.
