NACD Applauds Senate EPW Committee Efforts on Chemical Facility Executive Order 13650

ARLINGTON, VA--(Marketwired - December 11, 2014) - Today, the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) issued the following statement lauding the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW) for holding a joint hearing with the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions to examine the implementation of Executive Order 13650, "Improving Chemical Facility Safety and Security."

"NACD thanks the Senate EPW Committee for continuing to monitor the status of Executive Order 13650 implementation by holding this valuable hearing. Specifically, we applaud Ranking Member David Vitter (R-La.) and Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) for their commitment to overseeing the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) changes to the Risk Management Program under the executive order. Raising their concerns in a letter to the agency, Vitter and Inhofe highlight the numerous challenges industry would face in complying with the proposed changes.

"Sens. Vitter and Inhofe's letter seeks clarity on the agency's proposed timeline and plans for better coordinating with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, urging the agency to work with the regulated community and allow for comprehensive input.

"NACD strongly encourages EPA to consider the concerns of Sens. Vitter and Inhofe and work with lawmakers and industry alike to balance the need for protecting workers and communities while putting Americans back to work."
