NACD Applauds Surface Transportation Board Legislation Markup in Senate

ARLINGTON, VA--(Marketwired - March 25, 2015) - Today, the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) welcomed the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation markup of the Surface Transportation Board (STB) Reauthorization Act of 2015 (S. 808). S. 808 strives to make the STB function better for shippers by expanding the number of board members for the STB from three to five, increasing transparency, and making changes to the arbitration and investigation provisions of previous STB reform legislation. S. 808 was adopted and reported favorably out of the committee without amendment.

In his opening remarks, Chairman Thune said that the 2013-2014 rail service issues are still fresh in his mind and the legislation is necessary as the STB has not been reauthorized since it was formed nearly 20 years ago.

NACD President Eric Byer stated, "NACD thanks Chairman Thune for holding this important markup of S.808. STB reform is long overdue and Chairman Thune has demonstrated time and again his commitment to putting meaningful reforms in place that ensure a level playing field for freight rail shippers. We look forward to working with him to make sure this important piece of legislation crosses the finish line and becomes federal law."
