NACD Lauds STB Ruling Establishing Greater Rail Transparency

ARLINGTON, VA--(Marketwired - October 09, 2014) - The National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) issued the following statement on the Surface Transportation Board's (STB) new data reporting requirements:

"NACD applauds the STB for addressing rail shipper concerns by requiring freight railroads to publish weekly data reports regarding their service performance. This new requirement will bring greater transparency to the railroad industry and is a positive step toward reducing frequent rail delays.

"We thank Sens. John Thune (R-S.D.) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) for their efforts in Washington urging the STB to take action and for their commitment to businesses across the country that rely on rail shipping for receiving product and delivering their goods to market. We look forward to working with them and others in our nation's capital to continue improving our freight rail network."

NACD and its nearly 440 member companies are vital to the chemical supply chain, delivering products every eight seconds to over 750,000 end users. NACD members are leaders in health, safety, security, and environmental performance through implementation of Responsible Distribution, established in 1991 as a condition of membership and a third-party verified management practice.
