Name Your Price! 7-Eleven Invites Customers to Pay What You Want for a Slurpee

Retailer Commits to Giving 100% to Charity

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Sept. 15, 2014) - After another epic summer Slurpee season, 7-Eleven is declaring Friday, September 19 as "Slurpee Name Your Price Day", giving customers the power to pay what they want for a large Slurpee. What's more is that 100% of what customers pay will be donated to Food Banks Canada, supporting local food banks. Slurpee fans have the chance to show their warm hearts while enjoying a cold beverage anytime on September 19, at all 7-Eleven stores across the country.

The one-of-a-kind promotion is a first for the retailer who is handing over the reins to its customers to determine how much they pay for a large Slurpee and donate to this important cause. Customers have the choice to pay $0.50, $2, $50 or whatever they want to enjoy their favourite frozen beverage and help address hunger in Canada.

Impact of donations

  • $1 donation = breakfasts for a week for an individual in need
  • $3 donation = enough snacks for every school day for a week for a school aged child
  • $5 donation = dinners for a month for an individual in need
  • Pay the standard $1.99 for a large Slurpee and you will help to share 14 meals - that's a week's worth of breakfasts and dinners for someone in need

"We know that Slurpee fans like to give back so "Slurpee Name Your Price Day" gives our customers the perfect opportunity to do just that," says Raj Kapoor, Vice President and General Manager, 7-Eleven Canada, Inc. "We want to step back and let our customers decide what kind of impact they have. This is a win-win situation: customers decide what they want to pay for a Slurpee and also help feed those in need in their local community."

"Slurpee Name Your Price Day" is a creative way for Canadians to have a much enjoyed beverage while giving back and making a difference," says Katharine Schmidt, Executive Director, Food Banks Canada. "We hope everyone who purchases a Slurpee will be generous and know that their visit to a 7-Eleven on September 19 means we can put food on the table for those struggling with hunger."
