Named 'Top Newsmaker', Softchoice's 'Green IT Girl' Shares Top Tips for Sustainable Business

Recognized for Commitment to Sharing and Creating a Dialogue in the IT Industry

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 27, 2011) - Softchoice (TSX:SO) - Softchoice is delighted to announce that its Sustainability Programs Manager, Melissa Alvares, has been recognized as one of Computer Dealer News magazine's Top 25 Newsmakers for 2010. Ms. Alvares, also known as 'Green IT Girl', has been at the forefront of the Company's efforts to share information and create a richer dialogue on sustainable practices for IT and business in general.

"It's such an honour to be recognized for the effort we have put into supporting Green IT initiatives," says Alvares. "Through our Sustain-enable strategy we've focused on sharing our knowledge and expertise with customers and industry peers. Our goal is to inspire others through dialogue and straight-forward, practical advice."

In 2010 Softchoice took its focus on sharing sustainable business practices to a new level with the release of its 2010 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report. Using an interactive PDF format, the report offers a number of valuable tools and resources to help like-minded organizations assess their own green state, and drive their overall sustainability strategy. These include:

• Supplier Green Audit Template: a comprehensive survey tool that allows organizations to begin greening their supply chain by evaluating their supplier's environmental best practices.

• Creating Green Commuting Program: a view of the process and information Softchoice gathered to build its internal employee Green Commute program.

• Green Team Fundamentals: resources on how to identify, select, organize and develop a dedicated green team, and the green activities it can drive.

• Energy-Efficiency Best Practices: a straight-forward business case for switching to energy efficient light bulbs and investing in software to automatically shut down computers.

• Fundraising in-a-Box: instructions and best practices for running office fundraising events.

Softchoice also brought the conversation online in 2010, and introduced a series of sustainability-related blogs, including:

• Softchoice Green Team – sharing the Company's own stories and ideas as it introduces sustainable practices at Softchoice.

• Eco Tech Solutions - helping other organizations incorporate environmentally-responsible technologies and best practices into their own CSR strategy through education and value-added resources.

"We're part of a growing movement comprised of companies committed to sharing their ideas for the greater good," says Alvares. "By creating a dialogue around best practices and by learning from each other, we can drive even greater change within our own business and industry as a whole."
