NanoInk to Lead Workshop on Combating Counterfeiting and Illegal Diversion of Pharmaceuticals

Jim Whittle Featured Speaker at the Global Pharma Manufacturing Summit

SKOKIE, IL--(Marketwire - September 12, 2007) - NanoInk, Inc., a Skokie-based company specializing in nanometer-scale manufacturing and applications development for the life science and semiconductor industries, announced today that its Vice President of Business Development, Jim Whittle, will be a featured guest speaker at the Third Annual Global Pharma Manufacturing Summit. The event will be held at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center in Schaumburg, Ill. on September 19 and 20, 2007. Whittle will lead an interactive workshop titled, "Protect the Patient, Not the Package," beginning at 4:55 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19.

"My commentary during the conference will discuss how unit dosage protection measures created by NanoInk's Nanoencryption™ technology are required to fully ensure that patients are receiving the right medication. Nanoencryption enables authentication of each individual tablet at any point in the supply chain," said Jim Whittle. "I will show how unit dosage protection can be vital to providing the highest level of patient safety and why it should be utilized as part of a multilayered approach to fighting anti-counterfeiting and illegal diversion."

The FDA estimates that nearly 15 percent of all pharmaceuticals imported to the U.S. contain contaminants, wrong ingredients, or incorrect amounts or insufficient quantities of active ingredients. As this problem grows, the need for on-product brand protection is becoming increasingly urgent, not only for pharmaceutical companies but also for the safety of consumers. NanoInk's innovative Nanoencryption technology is an industry first and provides the only true forensic level track and trace brand protection at the unit level.

"One of the key issues for pharmaceutical companies right now is tackling counterfeit drugs," said Gemma Fawcett, conference director for the Global Pharma Manufacturing Summit. "NanoInk is an industry leader in anti-counterfeiting technology and Jim will add great value to the Global Pharma Manufacturing Summit."

The third annual Global Pharma Manufacturing Summit is dedicated to drug manufacturing excellence and brings together the industry's leading professionals to analyze the latest developments in innovation. The Summit will focus on evaluating the current status of regulatory affairs and guidelines in the pharmaceutical industry and will also explore how new anti-counterfeiting technologies can be implemented into the manufacturing and packaging processes.
