NanoProfessor Adds Izon Science's qNano Particle Characterization Instrument to Its Suite of Instrumentation

qNano Expands Skills Taught by NanoProfessor Program to Include Particle Detection and Characterization

SKOKIE, IL--(Marketwire - Oct 10, 2011) - NanoProfessor®, a division of NanoInk, Inc.® focused on nanotechnology education, is pleased to announce that it has added Izon Science's qNano particle characterization instrument to the NanoProfessor suite of instrumentation. The qNano research instrument fits well within the NanoProfessor Nanoscience Education Program by offering students the hands-on ability to control, count, and characterize nanoparticles. The NanoProfessor Program consists of instrumentation, curriculum, and hands-on labs to expand students' knowledge, skills, and real-world experience in the growing field of nanotechnology.

"We are extremely proud to have Izon as a strategic educational partner and excited to add Izon's qNano characterization instrument to the NanoProfessor Program," said Dean Hart, chief commercial officer of NanoInk. "With the addition of the qNano instrument, the NanoProfessor Program provides students significant hands-on experience and skills in nanoscale fabrication, imaging, and characterization of metallic nanoparticles and biologic agents. This unsurpassed level of hands-on experience translates to a higher level of student preparedness for exciting jobs and careers in the blossoming nanotechnology industry."

"Our qNano complements NanoProfessor's existing suite of technology by delivering a genuinely novel toolkit for fluid-borne nanoparticle analysis and characterization," said Hans van der Voorn, executive chairman of Izon. "We are thrilled to be part of the NanoProfessor Nanoscience Education Program, which is helping schools around the world fill an urgent need for a workforce that is trained to excel in the field of nanotechnology."

The National Science Foundation (NSF) projects a global demand of six million nanotechnology workers by 2020. However, it is estimated that only 400,000 nanotech workers are currently in the global workforce, which presents a challenge to nano-based companies moving from R&D to commercialization.

The NanoProfessor Program aims to expand hands-on nanotechnology education from the cleanrooms of research-based universities to undergraduate classrooms, and is especially well-suited to nanotechnology educational initiatives at the community college, technical institute, and undergraduate university level. The program alternates between classroom lectures and hands-on lab work and includes a 275-page textbook authored by leading nanotechnology experts, covering the topics of Nanotechnology Basics, Nanophysics, Nanochemistry, Nanobiology and Environmental, Health, & Safety perspectives on nanotechnology. It includes state-of-the-art equipment including NanoInk's NLP 2000 Desktop NanoFabrication System, a student-friendly atomic force microscope (AFM), an advanced fluorescence microscope, and various chemical and biological materials used today within current and emerging nanotechnology applications.

Izon has developed the world's first nanopore-based measurement system available for general use. Izon's instruments are used for precise measurement, control, and analysis of individual particles across a wide range of scientific fields including bionanotechnology, nanomedicine, vaccinology, microbiology, biomedical research, environmental science, and particle-based nanoscience. Izon originated in New Zealand and now sells its products in 23 countries. It has its European headquarters in Oxford, U.K. and U.S. headquarters in Cambridge, Mass.
