NAPA CEO Dr. John Di Capua and Other NAPA Clinicians Recognized as Health Care Heroes by Long Island Business News

MELVILLE, NY--(Marketwired - November 10, 2014) - North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) announced today that three of its leading practitioners were selected by Long Island Business News as 2014 Health Care Heroes. The NAPA winners included CEO John Di Capua, MD, Neil Kirschen, MD and Winston Joseph, CRNA. Drs. Di Capua and Kirschen were selected in the Physician Hero category and Mr. Joseph was named in the Health Care Professional Hero category. The three were selected from among hundreds of applicants by a panel that evaluated each candidate on specific criteria, including promotion of innovation and contributions that enhance the value and quality of health care on Long Island.

John F. Di Capua, MD, trained in anesthesiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by fellowships in pain management and cardiothoracic anesthesia. Board certified in anesthesia and pain management, Dr. Di Capua joined the North Shore-LIJ Health System in 1994, where he sits as the Peter F. R. Walker Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at North Shore University Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center and the recently opened Hofstra-NSLIJ School of Medicine. He is integrally involved in the issues of perioperative operational management, clinical staffing models and lectures internationally on how anesthesia departments can provide quality and operational value to hospitals. Prior to his current positions, Dr. Di Capua was on the faculty of Harvard Medical School.

Neil B. Kirschen, MD, serves as Chief of Pain Management, Department of Anesthesiology at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, New York. Board certified in Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine, Acupuncture and Massage Therapy, Dr. Kirschen has done extensive postgraduate training in osteopathic and manual medicine. He uses acupuncture, spinal manipulation, medical massage, craniosacral therapy, ligament reconstructive therapy, natural medicines and interventional anesthetic nerve blocks in his practice. In addition, Dr. Kirschen volunteers as a firefighter and emergency medical technician for the Rockville Centre Fire Department and as the medical director for the Rockville Centre and Roosevelt fire departments.

Winston L. Joseph, CRNA, serves as Chief CRNA at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY. In this position, Winston serves a critical, dual role consisting of administrative and clinical responsibilities, which consist of overseeing a staff of 36 CRNAs, scheduling at various facilities, staff enrichment and providing Anesthesia services to a wide range of patients from Neo-natal to Geriatric population. In addition, Winston manages the clinical education of SRNAs at Columbia and Rutgers University and is involved in CRNA recruitment efforts at NAPA. Winston received his Master of Science from Columbia University, New York, NY, and his Bachelors of Nursing from Leahman College in the Bronx, NY.
