NAR Installs 2011 Officers

NEW ORLEANS, LA--(Marketwire - November 8, 2010) -  Ron Phipps, a Realtor® from Warwick, R.I., was installed today as 2011 president of the National Association of Realtors® at the association's Board of Directors meeting during the REALTORS® Conference & Expo here. Approximately 20,000 Realtors® and guests from the U.S. and abroad attended the annual meeting this year.

In 2010, Phipps was NAR president-elect, and he was NAR first vice president in 2009. In 2003, Phipps was NAR's regional vice president (RVP) for Region I, representing Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. A Realtor® for more than 30 years, he is broker-president of Phipps Realty in Warwick, R.I., specializing in residential brokerage.

At the state level, Phipps was president of the Rhode Island Association of Realtors® in 2000. He was also president of the statewide Multi-Listing Service in 1993. He was named Rhode Island's "Realtor® of the Year" in 1995.

Realtor® Maurice "Moe" Veissi is the 2011 NAR president-elect. A Realtor® for 40 years, Veissi is broker-owner of Veissi & Associates Inc., in Miami, and specializes in land acquisition. Veissi served as the 2008 Political Fundraising Chair for the Realtors® Political Action Committee. He also served on NAR's Strategic Investment Reserve Advisory Board and was an RVP for Region V in 2005, representing Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Florida Association of Realtors® elected Veissi president in 2002. FAR named him "Realtor® of the Year" in 2003.

Gary Thomas, a Realtor® from Orange County, Calif., is the 2011 NAR first vice president. A Realtor® for more than 30 years, Thomas is the CEO and founder of Altera Real Estate in Orange County. In 2009 Thomas served as NAR vice president and liaison to government affairs. In 2004, he served as RVP for Region XIII, covering California, Hawaii and Guam. He has served on NAR's Board of Directors since 1995. In 2001, Thomas was president of the California Association of Realtors® and was named CAR's "Realtor® of the Year" that same year. 

William J. Armstrong III, a Realtor® from Damascus, Md., is the 2011 NAR treasurer. A Realtor® for over 20 years, he works for Mackintosh Inc., Realtors® in Frederick, Md. He has served on the NAR Finance Committee since 2003, and was president of the Maryland Association of Realtors® in 2000. 

Elizabeth Mendenhall, a Realtor® from Columbia, Mo., is the 2011 vice president and liaison to committees. She currently serves on the NAR Executive Committee and also served as the 2008 NAR liaison to association leadership. Mendenhall was the 2003 president of the Columbia Board of Realtors®; the local board named her "Realtor® of the Year" that same year. 

Vince Malta, a Realtor® in San Francisco, succeeds himself as 2011 vice president and liaison to government affairs. Malta is the CEO and founder of Malta & Co. Inc. Malta has been in the real estate business for over 25 years and has served the industry in many roles. He was president of the California Association of Realtors® in 2006, and sat on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Association of Realtors® from 1987-1994. The local board voted him "Realtor® of the Year" in 1996.
