NAR Presents Realtor® Paula Savard With Distinguished Service Award

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Nov 12, 2012) -  Paula Savard, a Realtor® from Sterling, Mass., has received the National Association of Realtors® 2012 Distinguished Service Award. Out of 1 million Realtors®, no more than two are recognized with this award each year. The recipients were announced in Orlando during NAR's annual Realtors® Conference and Expo.

NAR established the DSA in 1979 to honor Realtors® who have made outstanding contributions to the real estate industry and are recognized as leaders in their local communities. The award is considered the highest honor an NAR member can receive; recipients must be active at the local, state and national association levels, but must not have served as NAR president. NAR President Moe Veissi presented the award to Savard.

"I am very pleased to present the Distinguished Service Award to Paula Savard," said Veissi, broker-owner of Veissi & Associates Inc., in Miami. "Throughout her career Paula has demonstrated tremendous service to the Realtor® community. Her involvement in numerous volunteer positions at the local, state and national levels makes Paula an outstanding example of how Realtors® build and strengthen communities."

Savard has been a Realtor® for 43 years and is currently the CEO of an independent Realty Guild firm, Paula K. Aberman Associates, Inc., located in North Central Massachusetts.

"I am honored to accept the Distinguished Service Award," said Savard. "I strongly believe in the value Realtors® bring, as well as our common goal to better the quality of people's lives through homeownership. No Realtor® works alone and I am tremendously thankful for all those who have helped me get to where I am today. I am extremely proud to be a part of an organization where everyone works together and believes in the principle of service above self."

Savard has served in a number of positions within the Realtor® organization. She served as NAR regional vice president for Region 1 in 1997. Savard is most recently the immediate past chair of the Legal Action Committee. In addition, she has chaired numerous committees and task forces, including the MLS Policy and Professional Standards committees. Savard served as liaison to the Executive Committee in 1999 and 2008, while also serving as a member of the Finance Committee for four years.

In the 1980s Savard was a key advocate for creating the NAR Quadrennial Code of Ethics Education Training. NAR Past President Ira Gribin appointed her the first chair of the Education Subcommittee of Professional Standards Committee. With Savard's help, agency relationships and guidance were added to the Code of Ethics and approved by the Board of Directors in 1992. For 12 years Savard has also taught and facilitated NAR's Quadrennial Code of Ethics Training requirement for boards and associations throughout New England.

In addition to her NAR duties, Savard is active in her local and state Realtor® associations. She was president of the North Central Association of Realtors® in 1982. During her presidency the association's building succumbed to a fire. Savard moved the association to her personal office; the association remained there until fall 1983. In 1987 Savard served as president for the Massachusetts Association of Realtors®. Savard was also named Realtor® of the Year by both her local and state associations. While Savard served in numerous leadership roles with MAR she was also local and state chapter president of the Women's Council of Realtors®. In 1993 Savard chaired a 64-person task force in Massachusetts to explore the possibility of combining several local board-owned multiple listing services. The result was a collaborative MLS owned by local Realtor® associations across the state.

In 1968 Savard founded Paula K. Aberman Associates, Inc. Together with her partner and colleague, Realtor® Gail Lent and Realtor® Sandra Derienzo, Savard's firm has 11 associates, all with a minimum of six years in the real estate business.

In addition to her work in the real estate industry, Savard has been a private pilot for over eight years and travels to many of her educational seminars in a four passenger Cessna Skyhawk. When she's not flying, Savard enjoys spending time with her large family which includes two daughters, Tracey and Tara, two granddaughters, three siblings and several nieces and nephews.

The National Association of Realtors®, "The Voice for Real Estate," is America's largest trade association, representing 1 million members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries.
