NARCONON: Drug Rehabilitation Effectiveness Since 1966

TROIS-RIVIERES, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - June 8, 2009) - "Quickest way to hurt a person is to introduce them to narcotics." This statement was made by the Narconon founder, William Benitez, while delivering a drug education lecture in 1968, at the Scottsdale High School in Arizona. What was once a very true statement forty years ago is still very true to this day. William Benitez created the Narconon program within his prison cell of the Arizona State Prison in 1966. It started out as small therapy group with twelve other inmates, but eventually saw much success within the prison, and later outside the prison walls, with the first residential Narconon drug rehab center being established in Los Angeles. After being a former heroin addict for over 19 years, Will had been through many forms of treatment before. When he was sentenced to prison, he was determined to finally find a way out of his addiction for good.

Through much research on his own, Mr. Benitez discovered workable solutions for drug treatment, and was able to put a focus on increasing the person's abilities. With these new approaches set in motion, he succeeded to save his life and the lives of his fellow inmates. In his lecture given in 1968, Benitez talks about the success he had with those twelve inmates in the first Narconon therapy group. He said: "Twelve men who have left these Narconon groups from Arizona State Prison. And out of these 12 men, none have returned back to prison." At the time this was unheard for rehabilitation programs operating within the prison system. He produced a viable recovery rate to start his program, and because of this, the Narconon drug rehab program has gone on to save thousands of lives. There are now 150 different centers in over 40 different countries, and all of this is because of one man so long ago, determined to conquer addiction.
