NASSCOM Awards Persistent Systems for Innovation

Persistent Wins Innovation Award in Market Facing - Business Process and Business Model Category

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - February 4, 2009) - Persistent Systems, the leading Outsourced Product Development (OPD) services company, today announced that they have won the coveted NASSCOM Innovation award for 2008, in the Market Facing - Business Process and Business Model category. NASSCOM has recognized Persistent's innovative mobile strategy, developed for Bridgestone, Europe -- world's largest tire manufacturer. Persistent's three main innovation focus areas include platform, product engineering and domain specific innovation. Its OPD focus has allowed Persistent to grow to and sustain its present position. Persistent has delivered over 2000 software product releases in the last five years by use of technology accelerators, strategic business models and in-depth customer feedback.

Speaking on this announcement Dr. Anand Deshpande, Chairman and Managing Director, Persistent Systems, said, "As an OPD specialist, I believe that innovation is an integral part of the business model. It is only through innovation that we can co-create value for our customers, which further helps them in creating value through their services. Fundamentally, Persistent's work has changed the relationship of a software development vendor to being an extension of VP Engineering's development team. I am truly honored that NASSCOM has recognized our innovation for Bridgestone, a partner sitting tens of thousands of miles away."

Bridgestone sells tire-as-a-service and charge their customers as per the usage, wear and tear of a tire. Persistent has been Bridgestone Europe's software engineering partner for the last five years and has been instrumental in developing and driving their mobile strategy. The strategy entails the use of Internet-based hand-held devices and server-side integration. Persistent has helped Bridgestone develop and implement innovative pay-per-use pricing strategies rather than up-front fees. The application gathers real-time information concerning tire health and distance traveled in a centralized manner, effectively and efficiently, providing more than 800% improvement in productivity for Bridgestone's service engineers and dealers.

The NASSCOM Innovation Awards, 2008, an annual event, is currently in its fifth edition and is a key initiative by NASSCOM to highlight the true innovators in the Indian IT industry. In total, there were over 51 participants, across several facets of the IT industry.
