National Arson Awareness Week May 3-9, 2009-ARA Safety FIT Makes Arson Investigation Easier

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 4, 2009) - ARA Safety, a leader in innovative fire and safety technology, makes arson investigation easier with FIT-5. Every year in the United States over three hundred innocent people, including firefighters attempting rescue, die as a direct result of building arson fires. These fires cause over $700,000,000 dollars annually in direct property damage.

The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) in conjunction with the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) is focusing National Arson Awareness Week (AAW) May 3-9, 2009, on the theme "Arson for Profit". Experts fear the current economic crisis will reverse the recent downward trend and drive an alarming increase in building arson fires, particularly in regions hardest hit by recession.

Arson is a challenging crime to prosecute. Evidence essential to a successful arson prosecution either literally goes up in smoke, consumed by the same flames that destroy the building, or is washed away by the huge quantities of water traditionally required to extinguish the fire. A new and innovative technology from ARA Safety is changing all that.

Firefighters and arson investigators have discovered that ARA Safety's Fire Interruption Technology, FIT-5, is a powerful ally in their fight against arson. FIT-5 is a compact light fire attack tool using an environmentally safe extinguishing agent that stops fire in seconds without the use of water.

FIT-5 rapidly lowers fire temperature and knocks down flames, suppressing the fire so that firefighters can enter the building with a higher degree of safety to completely extinguish the fire using only a fraction of the water required by conventional building firefighting techniques.

In a recent arson fire in Canada, FIT-5 was so effective in suppressing the fire that literally only a few gallons of water were required to completely extinguish it. This resulted in the crime scene being preserved essentially intact for arson investigators, who were able to make arrests based on evidence remaining at the scene.

About ARA Safety

ARA Safety is a world leader in innovative fire and life safety technology. ARA Safety's powerful Fire Interruption Technology (FIT) can knock down fully involved fires quickly and effectively, buying firefighters time to extinguish fires completely with little or no water. In November 2008, ARA Safety's FIT-5 was included in Popular Science Magazine's Best of What's New in 2008. To learn more about ARA Safety and FIT visit www.arasafety.com.
