WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Feb 21, 2013) - The National Association of State Foresters (NASF) joins the Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work® Foundation to announce a partnership to inform children nationwide on the importance of forests and forestry jobs. This year's Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work® Day falls on Thursday, April 25 and is themed "Work In Progress." Both organizations recognized that this year's theme would be a great match for a forestry focus, because our forests are a continual work in progress. The partnership will provide event organizers with tools and resources to enlighten children about the many careers they can explore related to forests in the areas of sustainability, forest health, fire prevention, urban and community forests, water quality and more.
Materials will be available on the National Foundation's website beginning February 21, and will include worksheets, activities, quizzes and links to resources that will educate participants about forestry, wildland fire prevention, sustainable practices and forest markets. Because forestry offers many diverse options for future careers, kids will have the opportunity to explore which areas are most interesting to them.
"NASF is excited to be working with such a well-established program to educate the next generation about sustainability and forestry-related careers," said WV State Forester and NASF President Randy Dye. "This will be a great chance for state foresters to engage their local communities and talk about their roles in forest health."
The 2013 Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work® Day event will be the first time there has been a focus on a specific vocational field. "The national Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work® Foundation is excited to work with NASF to offer our event organizers new and exciting resources and to promote such an important area of work as forestry," said President of TODSTWF Carolyn McKecuen. "Sustainable forestry and related vocations are a great focus, because it's not just about trees. It relates to clean water and air and a better quality of life for future generations."
The National Association of State Foresters is comprised of the directors of state and territorial forestry agencies and the District of Columbia. NASF seeks to advance sustainable forestry, conservation, and protection of forest lands and their associated resources. http://www.stateforesters.org
