National Bank Joins Forces with Virginie to Keep Kids in School

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 12, 2005) - National Bank is proud to join forces with the popular French-language TV show Virginie, Productions Aetios and Radio-Canada in sponsoring the "Les etudes, moi j'accroche !" contest.

An initiative to help prevent students from dropping out of school, the contest will run from October 3, 2005 to March 28, 2006. High school and college students from across Canada are invited to present a project to keep their peers in school. Six groups of finalists, selected by a jury, will receive a laptop computer and a free one-year high-speed Internet subscription. In addition, the winning group will receive a grant of up to $30,000 to carry out its proposal.

National Bank is pleased to help schools profile their initiatives for preventing students from dropping out and encouraging them to persevere in their studies.

In 2004, the Bank and its subsidiaries, through corporate donations, sponsorships, in-branch fundraising activities and various benefit events, gave $12 million to hundreds of Canadian education, health care, cultural and community organizations.
