National Bank Publishes its 2006 Social Responsibility Report

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - March 8, 2007) - National Bank (TSX:NA) has released its 2006 Social Responsibility Report describing its involvement in the community and the many activities undertaken to meet the needs of its clients, employees and shareholders.

In 2006, National Bank and its subsidiaries gave a total of $19.5 million, in the form of donations, sponsorships and monies raised through in-branch fundraisers and charity events, to hundreds of Canadian organizations working in the fields of health, education, community outreach and culture.

Every year, National Bank injects billions of dollars into Canada's economy and development. Highlights from 2006 include:

- $33 billion in financing granted to Canadian businesses

- $930 million in goods and services purchased

- $484 million in income and other taxes remitted in Canada

- $1.5 billion in salaries and employee benefits paid out

- $17 million invested in employee training and development
