National Bank reveals the Winners of the 12th Edition of its SMEs of the National Bank Recognition Program

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 31, 2005) - National Bank has unveiled the names of the provincial winners of the 12th edition of its SMEs of the National Bank recognition program.

The awards ceremony, held on Friday, October 28 at the Hotel Omni Mont-Royal, was attended by more than 200 people, including the finalists from each category, representatives from National Bank senior management and leaders in the business community.

Jean Douville, President and Chairman of the Board of National Bank, took the opportunity to remind everyone that National Bank is proud to be a preferred partner of Quebec SMEs. The SMEs of the National Bank program recognizes small and medium-sized business clients of National Bank whose achievements and performance in the past year made them a cut above the rest. Jean Douville and Tony Meti, Senior Vice-President - Commercial Banking and International at National Bank, announced the names of the four provincial GOLD award winners in the Small Business, SME, Agricultural SME and Export SME categories. In addition, Bronze and Silver awards were presented in the Small Business, SME and Agricultural SME categories to another six businesses.

In the Small Business category, the GOLD award winner is Europe Cosmetiques inc., an exclusive distributor of Belgian and Swiss cosmetics located in Montreal that also has a private-label line of skincare products and offers specialized training programs. Among the ingredients of this company's success are innovation, incredible drive and sound human and financial resource management.

In the SME category, the GOLD award winner is Bouthillette Parizeau & associes inc., a building engineering firm that is definitely a leader in its industry. The company, located in Montreal, now under its third generation of management, is known for the exceptional quality of its services, which it controls by means of strict quality assurance policies. Other strengths that set it apart are the creativity of its personnel and its expertise in mechanics, electricity, building automation, energy and telecommunications.

In the Agricultural SME category, the GOLD award winner is Les productions maraicheres Bourget et freres, a family business in Monteregie that grows broccoli, cucumbers and hot peppers. It is the only company to market, under the name Euphoria, placeback hot peppers, which are packaged in boxes that reduce the damage caused by vegetable handling. Renowned for the quality of its products and for its sense of innovation, the company provides its employees with a positive and stimulating workplace and has increased its earnings in an especially difficult environment.

In the Export SME category, the GOLD award winner is Mechtronix Systems Inc., a precision engineering and robotics firm based in Montreal. Over the years, the company has capitalized on market opportunities by positioning itself as a major player in the flight simulator manufacturing industry. This company stands apart because of its quality management, the growth it has achieved since it was established, its capacity for innovation and its significant network of international partners. Today, nearly 100 of its flight training systems are in use worldwide.

The provincial winners will be rewarded in two ways. All of them are benefitting from a visibility campaign in the major dailies belonging to the Reseau Probec. Each will also be featured in a special televised report. These reports will air between November 28 and December 21, 2005 as part of the program Salut, Bonjour ! on TVA, as well as on Canal Argent.

The GOLD award winners in the Agricultural SME, Small Business and SME categories received a pair of round-trip airline tickets from Montreal to Paris and the winner in the Export SME category received $5,000 in airline tickets, compliments of National Bank Financial. All winning companies also received a National Bank Premia MasterCard business card with a $1,000 credit balance that they can use for personal expenses during their trip.

Selection process and partnerships

The winners in the Small Business, SME and Agricultural SME categories were selected from among the regional finalists based on a number of criteria, such as their competence, their drive and the excellence of their human resources management. The Export SME winner was chosen from a list of provincial finalists who were selected for their recent export success. All the winners were selected by a panel made up of individuals from the business community who followed a rigorous selection process overseen by the professional services firm Samson Belair/Deloitte & Touche.

Once again this year, the SMEs of the National Bank recognition program was widely supported by the business community and through sponsorships from prestigious companies such as IBM Canada Ltd., Cooperative federee du Quebec, TVA, Samson Belair/Deloitte & Touche, the French-language newspapers La Presse, Le Soleil, Le Droit, Le Nouvelliste, La Tribune, Le Quotidien and La Voix de l'Est, National Bank Financial and National Bank MasterCard.
