National Guild of Hypnotists Launches Educational Campaign

MERRIMACK, NH--(Marketwired - Oct 27, 2015) - The National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH), the nation's oldest, largest and leading organization for professional consulting hypnotists, is launching a campaign to help educate the public regarding the safe, successful and highly effective use of hypnosis to address problems of daily life. Through its membership of more than 17,500 consulting hypnotists, located throughout 81 countries, the National Guild of Hypnotists ( is sharing information about the types of services it offers with media outlets worldwide.

NGH President, Dr. Dwight Damon, described hypnotism as a simple and natural process. Dr. Damon explained, "Although they may not realize it, most people have experienced moments of hypnosis. They watch a sports event or movie on television. Their interest is captivated and for the duration of the show, they are absorbed in the action. Their focus may be so intense that they are oblivious to the sound of their partner calling them to dinner or the actions of their children playing only a few feet away; in short, they are mesmerized."

Dr. Damon continued, "Hypnosis harnesses this same type of mental focus, helping individuals tap in to their inner strengths in addressing a range of issues including smoking cessation, stress management, overeating or the anxieties of test taking or public speaking. Consulting hypnotists help people with everyday problems."

Organized in Boston, Massachusetts in 1950, the National Guild of Hypnotists has worked diligently for 65 years to educate the public about the practicality and efficacy of hypnotism, to elevate the role of professional consulting hypnotists, and to ensure that the NGH membership receives extensive training. As part of this objective, NGH established a strict and comprehensive universal code of ethics for the profession and developed and maintains a rigorous certification program based on a standardized curriculum. Throughout the year, the National Guild of Hypnotists leads educational seminars around the country and annually conducts an international convention and educational conference that attracts over a thousand hypnotists.

In 1994, the National Guild of Hypnotists chartered the rapidly growing National Federation of Hypnotists, Local 104, a Union affiliated with the OPEIU, AFL-CIO, CLC.
