National Institute of Health to Make Premiere Introduction of Grant Recipients at IBC's ACT (Assays & Cellular Targets) Conference

ACT - September 24-26, 2008 in San Diego, CA

WESTBOROUGH, MA--(Marketwire - September 10, 2008) - IBC announced today that Dr. Carson Loomis, Ph.D., of the National Institute of Health, will make the first public introduction of the companies awarded grants last week from the NIH in his presentation at ACT (Assays & Cellular Targets) conference on September 24-26, 2008 in San Diego, CA. The funding, awarded to a network of nine centers across the country, will go towards high tech screening methods that can identify small molecules for use as probes to investigate the diverse functions of cells at lower costs.

The network's launch is considered a milestone because public sector biomedical researchers will gain access to this large-scale screening capacity, further explore biologic processes and ultimately develop new therapies for disease.

The nine companies selected for the Molecular Libraries Probe Production Centers Network (MLPCN) will provide center specifics and offer a public question and answer session for the first time on Thursday, September 25th at the ACT conference. Dr. Loomis will highlight each company selected and explain the role each plays in the network. Funded at approximately $70 million annually, the MLPCN is a collaborative research network designed to enable screening of diverse types of assays and generation of chemical probes to address a wide range of biological opportunities.

ACT 2008 is an international event that will address the latest discoveries surrounding Assay & Screening Advances, GPCR, Protein Kinase, and Ion Channel Drug Targets. Over 75 speakers will share their industry trend analysis, and provide the safest and most effective ways to expedite R&D activities as well as discuss the latest screening approaches to aid in drug discovery efforts.
