National Marfan Awareness Week, November 15-21, 2009

Attention: Health/Medical Editor, News Editor MISSISSAUGA,ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 13, 2009) - November 15-21, 2009 is National Marfan Awareness Week. Marfan syndrome is a potentially fatal genetic disorder that affects 1 in 5000 Canadians. It is believed that 1 in 2 people don't know they have this condition which can affect many of the body's organs. If the condition is undetected and untreated it can be fatal, this is why we must spread the word about Marfan syndrome.

National Marfan Awareness Week gives us the opportunity to educate Canadians about the risks of this serious but not well known condition. This week brings together sufferers, families and friends to help raise awareness within their communities. We are writing to you today to ask for your help in spreading awareness of Marfan syndrome.

The Canadian Marfan Association was founded in 1986 to answer a critical need for information and support for patients and families affected by Marfan Syndrome. We are a federally incorporated, registered charity, dedicated toward improving the health of Marfan patients through national programs of education, support and research.

Thank you!
