National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Selects Avaya Government Solutions for Next-Generation Satellite Ground System

New Ground System Will Support Satellites That Measure Sea Surface Elevation and Help NOAA Track Ocean Circulation, Climate Change and Sea-Level Rise

FAIRFAX, VA--(Marketwire - March 23, 2011) - Avaya Government Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Avaya, today announced that it has been tasked by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to build a next-generation NOAA Jason Ground System (NJGS) that will support the simultaneous operation of Jason-2 and Jason-3 satellites. The contract is valued at up to $4.7 million over three years.

Avaya will provide NOAA with an end-to-end solution that includes ground software and systems development, IT security, network integration, varied network and system upgrades, data backup and recovery, maintenance support and project management, as well as ongoing operations. The new NJGS will support both the Jason-2 and Jason-3 satellites in their mission to provide NOAA with sea surface elevation observations and measurements for determining ocean circulation, climate change and sea-level rise. Jason-2 is currently in orbit, while Jason-3 is slated for launch in 2013.

"Avaya Government Solutions has provided mission support to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for the past decade, helping it meet its goal of understanding and predicting changes in the Earth's environment, and conserving and managing the United States' coastal and marine resources," said Chris Formant, senior vice president and president, Avaya Government Solutions. "Avaya Government Solutions' expertise in ground system development and system integration, and our extensive experience with spacecraft command and telemetry systems enable us to provide NOAA with unmatched support in building the new NOAA Jason Ground System."

The Avaya Government Solutions team includes Solers and Ingenicomm.
