National Parks and National Historic Sites Closed Due to Potential for Severe Weather

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 3, 2010) - Parks Canada advises that, based on current information from the Canadian Hurricane Centre about the potential for severe weather from Hurricane Earl, the following national parks and national historic sites will close, Friday, September 3:

Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site, Nova Scotia – campgrounds will be closed as of noon, Friday, September 3; Park will close at 8:00 p.m

Kejimkujik Seaside, Nova Scotia – closed Friday, September 3 at 5:00 p.m.

Fort Anne National Historic Site, Nova Scotia – closed Friday, September 3 at 5:30 p.m. and all day Saturday, September 4

Port Royal National Historic Site, Nova Scotia - closed Friday, September 3 at 5:30 p.m. and all day Saturday, September 4

Fort Edward National Historic Site, Nova Scotia - closed Friday, September 3 at 5:30 p.m. and all day Saturday, September 4

Parks Canada will close these sites as a precaution in the interest of visitor safety and will re-assess these closures on Saturday. Parks Canada is also carefully monitoring the weather situation related to Hurricane Earl and other national parks and national historic sites in the Atlantic region may be closed as the storm progresses. 

Visitors are asked to contact national parks or national historic sites directly before visiting this weekend. 

In the event that national park campgrounds are closed or evacuated, all those who had a camping reservation for this weekend at a national park will be fully refunded. Please visit www.pccamping.ca or call -877-RESERVE (1-877-737-3783) regarding campground reservations.
