National Revenue Minister Promotes CRA's Electronic Services

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 29, 2010) - Leading up to the individual filing deadline on April 30, 2010, the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, wishes to highlight the new and existing electronic services offered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

"Individual taxpayers and benefits recipients are in full control of their tax information when they use the CRA's many electronic service options," said Minister Ashfield. "New services such as My Payment and existing services like My Account, NETFILE, and Represent a Client make it faster and easier for Canadians to access their information and conduct individual business with us."

Individual taxpayers are encouraged to take advantage of the CRA's quick, easy, and secure services, which allows users to access their information year-round and to conduct many different types of transactions with the CRA. Leading up to the April 30, 2010, filing deadline for individuals, these services become even more useful.

Since 2000, the number of Canadians filing electronically has increased by 120%. In 2009, over 58% of all individual income tax and benefit returns were filed electronically with the CRA, meaning that they were either transmitted electronically over the Internet using NETFILE, over the phone using TELEFILE, or through the services of a tax preparer via EFILE. Over 33% were filed by individuals themselves.
