Nation's First Frozen Egg and Frozen Sperm Baby Healthy and Happy at 18 Months

Orange County-Based Fertility Center Achieves Pregnancies From Both Frozen Eggs and Frozen Sperm

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 17, 2007 -- Two California women were among the first in the world to conceive children from frozen eggs and frozen sperm. Cadyn Elizabeth was born on October 6, 2005 after utilizing frozen eggs and frozen sperm from West Coast Fertility Centers based in Fountain Valley, California. Today, both mother and 18-month-old are thriving and Cadyn's development is normal and healthy. The Center's second frozen egg and frozen sperm pregnancy resulted in the birth of a healthy baby girl in February 2007.

Both mothers are in their mid-forties and used a new option of frozen donor eggs and frozen sperm through West Coast Fertility Centers. Human eggs (oocytes) are different from embryos in that they are unfertilized at the time of freezing. As of February 2007, West Coast Fertility Centers reports a 58% pregnancy success rate utilizing frozen eggs and their program has produced eighteen pregnancies and five more births.

Dr. David Diaz, M.D., Medical Director of West Coast Fertility Centers, explains, "Our frozen egg bank, much like sperm banking, is an excellent option for women needing donor eggs and our frozen egg bank includes online donor profiles." He explains that there are many advantages to utilizing donated eggs including significantly lower cost, fewer obstacles versus finding and working with a traditional donor and the elimination of cycle synchronization problems. Diaz says, "In-vitro fertilization (IVF) patients using their own eggs may also prefer egg freezing if they are opposed to embryo freezing."

Dr. Diaz and his scientific staff will attend next week's Pacific Coast Reproductive Society Meeting in Rancho Mirage, California to present three abstracts related to egg freezing and case studies. The Center's nurse practitioner Joan Moody, RNC, spoke earlier this month at an oncology nursing conference in Atlanta to discuss fertility preservation for cancer patients utilizing egg freezing technology.

Established in 1988, West Coast Fertility Centers is one of the largest and most established Centers of its kind in Orange County. West Coast Fertility Centers has perfected the art of oocyte freezing and has consistently achieved high overall IVF success rates.
