The Nation's Mayors to Gather in Oklahoma City With a Focus on Investment in Metro Priorities for Presidential Candidates

The United States Conference of Mayors Fall Leadership Meeting September 29th - October 1st; New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to Attend

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - September 29, 2016) - Under the leadership of the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) President Oklahoma City (OK) Mayor Mick Cornett, a bipartisan delegation of more than 40 mayors who serve in the organization's leadership will gather in Oklahoma City on Thursday, September 29th through Saturday, October 1st for the USCM Fall Leadership Meeting at the Colcord Hotel.

Mayors from cities large and small will convene to identify specific areas of focus they believe the next President of the United States should prioritize. Key issues to be discussed include the growing consensus on the need for a national infrastructure investment policy; ongoing efforts to reduce crime and terrorism, reforming the criminal justice system, and strengthening police-community relations; and the public-policy implications of deploying autonomous vehicles in cities. Representatives from both Presidential Campaigns will attend so the mayors can present their priorities for the first 100 days of the Administration.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who serves as a USCM Trustee, will join the mayors in Oklahoma City on Thursday and Friday.

While the USCM Leadership Meeting is CLOSED to press coverage, mayors will hold a PRESS CONFERENCE on Friday, September 30th at 12 NOON CT to stress the importance of INVESTING in and PROTECTING cities, and call on the Presidential candidates to recognize the critical role cities play in shaping America's future.

Since more than 80 percent of the people in this country live in cities and their metropolitan areas, mayors believe the Presidential aspirants and their policy agendas should be focused on issues that matter most to people who live in urban areas.
