Navy's SPAWAR Systems Center Identifies Optelian Modulator as Key Component in Avionics Photonics

Optelian's Versawave Division Achieves First End-to-End System With Noise Figure < 28 dB at 40 GHz With a Multi-Octave Radio Frequency Photonic Link

MARIETTA, GA and OTTAWA, ON--(Marketwired - Oct 30, 2013) - Intuitive Packet Optical Networking™ solution provider, Optelian, is at the forefront of advanced optical modulator technology, as highlighted in a recent paper by the SPAWAR Systems Center of Navy Research Labs.

The SPAWAR paper, titled "Performance of a 40 GHz RF photonic balanced link using a polarization modulator," discusses a solution based on Optelian's Versawave polarization modulator. The paper's authors believe the solution is the first achievement of an end-to-end system Noise Figure < 28 dB at 40 GHz for a multi-octave RF photonic link, enabling optical system flexibility not seen before. SPAWAR's paper was presented at the IEEE Avionics Fiber-Optics and Photonics Conference, held October 1-3, 2013, in Atlanta.
