NAWBO-Orange County Launches Education Center for Region's Women Business Owners

Registration Now Open for June Classes, Workshops and Series

TUSTIN, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 11, 2006 --In a further demonstration of its commitment to enhancing the success of the region's women business owners, the National Association of Women Business Owners-Orange County chapter (NAWBO-OC) officially has launched a one-stop Education Center for its members and other female professionals.

The Education Center's first offering--a track of eight individual courses focused on varied aspects of Business Planning -- is scheduled for June, with registrations now being taken. Scholarship applications also are available.

Prominent Orange County businesses such as Farmers & Merchants Bank, Merrill Lynch, Matters At Hand™, Citibank, Ferruzzo & Ferruzzo LLP, and the UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business, have been enthusiastic about the new Education Center, showing their support by contributing to program funding and/or scholarships through the non-profit Women's Business Institute, NAWBO-OC's 501(c) 3 affiliate.

The NAWBO-OC Education Center, the concept of NAWBO-OC President-Elect Camille Jayne, founder of Matters At Hand™, will serve as an on-going educational and professional development resource for Orange County's women in business.

According to Jayne, the Center was developed to further the success of women business owners by offering classes, workshops and series designed to meet the needs of entrepreneurs at every stage of personal and company growth. The Center also will initiate in July "Success Teams" -- small, facilitator-led groups of women business owners who meet monthly over a six-month timeframe to discuss common concerns and issues.

"As the premier education and networking resource for Orange County's women business owners and professionals, NAWBO-OC is committed to positioning female entrepreneurs for power, profit and the passionate pursuit of excellence in business," said Jayne. "Surveys of our membership consistently indicated a desire for continual education options offered on a broader range of business topics."

NAWBO-OC's Director of Education, Markell Steele, principal of Futures in Motion, Inc., added, "We conducted extensive research into courses available at local colleges, university extension programs, and online, and the options available were overwhelming. With the Education Center, we're helping our members and other female professionals cut through the clutter and have a monthly Education Center where they can go to find exactly what they need."

NAWBO-OC has created a one-stop shop for educational resources, making professional development more manageable in terms of time, cost and convenience.

"We think the targeted structure of the new Center makes sense and ensures that we offer something for everyone," Steele commented.

NAWBO-OC's Education Center course offerings revolve around monthly "tracks," or topic areas, that will help everyone from first-time entrepreneurs to those who have successful, multi-million dollar businesses and want to achieve the next level.

Additional monthly tracks slated for 2006 include Marketing and Public Relations (July), Sales and Business Development (August), Finance and Accounting (September), Operations and Processes (October), and Leadership and Management (November). The monthly tracks will repeat in January.

All of the Center's classes, workshops and series will be held at the Hyatt Regency, Irvine, varying in length from one to three weekly sessions of three hours each. Courses are open to both NAWBO-OC members and non-members, with prices for members and NAWBO-OC affiliates ranging from $60 to $160 ($75 to $200 for non-members). People can now register online at

To maintain the high quality and relevance of its course offerings, NAWBO-OC invites qualified Orange County business and teaching professionals to apply as instructors for the Education Center. The paid instructor positions require previous executive-level teaching experience and prior corporate or entrepreneurial background. Applications are available online at
